Static - Structural Danger
Six phenomenologies affecting the structural stability of the cultural heritage
the most, with respect to the municipal territorial areas in which they are located,
have been taken as points of reference:
1. Seismic;
2. Landslides and damage;
3. Floods;
4. Coastal dynamics;
5. Avalanches;
6. Volcanic.
Danger Indexes
Static-Structural Danger Indicators are:
1. Seismic danger index;
2. Landslides and damage danger index; (sources: Ministry of Public Works and
National Geological Service);
3. Flooding danger index (sources: Ministry of the Environment and National
Geological Service);
4. Coastal dynamics danger index;
5. Avalanche danger index;
6. Volcanic danger index;
7. Summary index of static-structural danger.
In order to facilitate the cartographic representations, the values have been
discretised into classes allowing the drawing-up of individual thematic maps with
the graphing of the different municipal areas.

Public Works, 1987).
FLOODING
Floodable surface areas per municipality, floodable surface areas with
respect to the municipal surface area, maps of floodable areas (

for the Isonzo, Tagliamento, Livenza, Piave, Brenta, Bacchiglione rivers, the
CSI for Piemonte [Consortium for Automatic Information Processing], Tevere River

in Italy, 1992).
Number of post-war events per municipality up to 1990 (

Service – Vol. XLVII - V. Catenacci, 1992).
SUBSIDENCE
Areas of subsidence per municipality (
Ministry of the Environment).
LANDSLIDES
Number of landslides per municipality, type of landslide, surfaces subject
to landslides per event and municipality; number of populated areas to be considered
and/or transferred per municipality (
Landslide movements in Italy – Ministry of Public
Works, 1964).
Number of post-war events per municipality up to 1990 (

Service – Memorie della Carta Geologica d’Italia [Records of the Geological Map
of Italy] - Vol. XLVII - V. Catenacci, 1992).
COASTAL DYNAMICS
Stretch of advancing coastline per municipality.
Stretch of withdrawing coastline per municipality.
Stretch of stable coastline per municipality.
Relationship between coastal stretch affected by the phenomenon of
advancement/withdrawal and the total stretch of coast; relationship of
coast/municipal boundary (

CNR [National Research Council] 1986).
AVALANCHES
Surfaces affected by avalanches and/or probable predisposition to the same,
on a municipal basis (
UFF. NE. VA.[Snow and Avalanches Office] Alpine Regions and
Autonomous Provinces 1982).
VOLCANIC DANGER
Surfaces affected by the opening up of craters, lava flows and area prone to
pyroclastic falls, on a municipal basis (

Terrestre [Map of Recent Movements of the Earth’s Crust] – Ministry of the
Environment, 1992).
